I don't think 3dO put too much thought into updating this game for the increased capabilities of the 128 bit generation of consoles. If you are familiar with this game from previous iterations of the Army Men franchise, you will immediately notice that it is almost identical to the versions which came out three or four years ago for other systems. That is to say, it isn't a terrible game, but it can't compare with more modern games that were designed for the newer consoles, like SOCOM, or Turok. Another disturbing thing about the ps2 version of this game is that it leaves out some of the features of the n64 game, such as the enemy locating radar. This makes it very difficult to sneak up on your enemy, but very easy for them to ambush you. As a result, you do a lot of retreating and hiding, rather than stalking and killing. Also, when you play it in one player mode, it pretty much forces you to procede through each level in a very scripted manner. You get the impression that there is truly only one right way to play the game, and that a successfull mission for one player will be more or less identical to a successfull mission for another player. This may have worked in the previous generation of consoles, but as anyone who owns a current model will agree, you can do much much better than that these days.
The story pretty much pick up where the previous story left off, Sarge is recruited once again to find Plastro and thwart his tan army from exploiting a wormhole that allows them to utilize ferocious new technology in their quest to take over.
If you can find a friend with enough patience to learn the controls for the game, then you will doubtlessly have more fun in the two player mode, much like the original. However, given the limitations of this game, it is unlikely you will be able to convince any of your friends to actually sit down and learn it well enough to be competitive with you.
Great Game

This game is really fun to play. With a friend it is limited to going after each other. Play mode against the computer is a lot of fun. It is very challenging and takes time to master. I recommend it because it is fun and is just like the ones for PS1 but with better graphics and more levels
Another Army Men Game, Better Army Men Game

Well, there certainly is alot to say about Sarge's Heroes. In comparison to all other army men games, this ranks as one of the top (then again, the other games weren't much competition). The graphics sparkle brilliantly using the advantage of the ps2 console. Each movement and environment is very realistic and clear. But, now comes the bad side. It's play control is somewhat, to be desired. In many points in the game, the controller is unresponsive. You push X to fire your weapon, nothing happens. However, this only happens every so often. Angles you look from can also be somewhat choppy, where you either look right or left, nothing in between. Also, the levels are extremely confusing! The objectives are so undescriptive, you have no clue what you are supposed to do (such as in the "Bridge" level.) The game, however is certainly not the easiest Army Men game! Huge tanks shoot one missile at you, and you're plastic shards. But even though it's moderately difficult in that perspective, it's really fun. Cinema scenes are great and so is the music. Overall, a good army men game worth buying.

This game is about just as fun as the original army men - sarge's heros for n64 and ps1. the only problem is, it is a short game. i beat it in exactly 6 hours. the original took me about a month to beat.
ps: i am reveiwing the n64 version of this game, but the ps2 one is pretty much the same, except for improved graphics.

OK, pump up the crowd!!! Where is the sixth star??? This game is awesome! Everyone says the controls are very bad, the controls are fine to me. I got this game for my birthday and I play this a lot! It's a great game, not too violent, no bad language, and it's perfectly hard. The aiming is presice, the weapon details are awesome!
This game is truly amazing. The levels are hard, but not too hard. If you are an Army Men fan, (like me!) you have to get this game. You wont be sorry, trust me. The graphics are glorious, the detail in the face and and hair are massive. Awesome 3-D environments make it seem like you are 3 inches tall. The world your Army Man walks in is awesome, it looks so real. Take the first level for example, is the Dinner Table. When I play it, to me it's like I am looking at my dinner table from a 3 inch figure's point of view. This is a very real game, it has good cheats, great gameplay, and incredible graphical environments. Here is a list of Pros and Cons:
Pros: Cool Army Men figures Fabulous details in the world around your figure Good controls Awesome guns Difficulty is fairly difficult, but not too difficult
Cons: You must be kidding me, there aren't any Cons!
All and all, this is the best PS2 3rd person shooter in the current time of year!!! Trust me, you wont be sorry when you buy this!

I almost didn't buy this game because of the generally poor reviews by professional critics and other reviewers. I just disagree. This is a really fun game! Some here have criticized the control system, but I find it just fine. This game wasn't meant to be Tomb Raider, but rather an entertaining strategy/3ps. I also enjoyed the storyline (yes I know folks this game is not realistic) which mixed war with romance. :-)
I recommend this game emphatically. This is the first one I've playerd, but I've ordered "Air Attack" from Amazon zshops which I highly anticipate.

My dad and I really like to play this game. The graphics are excellent. You can also adjust the difficulty levels to make it as challenging for you as you like. Not to mention blowing up stuff is a great way to end a bad day! We still have a long way to go on it, but I look foreward to trying to outsmart my dad on the dual action. Have fun!
THE BEST!

Okay, I wrote another review on this game for the play station 1 version. Forget about it. Now, this game is so fun. The sound is like your actually there, the graphics are really good and the enemies AI is good too. I havent played multiplayer yet so I dont know what its like but by the way 1 player is Id say Ill probably think multiplay is good too. I think everybody should rent first THEN BUY! Its a really good game and its a must have!

This game is really fun and the graphics are awesome on it. The game play is awesome because it is not too easy so it won't get boring. The weapons are cool and so are the levels. The two players is fun because you can unlimited kills. This is why I gave it a five star rating.
