Great!

I play magic, but i never really had anyone to play with other than a couple of my friends. I got this, and i can play whenever i want to! It doesnt matter that you have to pay for the cards, because you can sell the virtual ones on ebay for more money than the cardboard ones!

Calling all Magic: the Gathering fans this game is awesome! Play magic, buy, trade and sell cards all online. You can play ppl all over the country. I love it!

A great hobby that makes you think

I personaly like the Magic: The Gathering card game in general because it's a card game that makes you think, unlike Yu-Gi-O and other card games of that nature because in those, all you need is the biggest, baddest creature in order to win. Magic, on the other hand, can be won even with the weakest creatures. All you need is a deck and a mind for strategy, and the compitition will come as you embark on this virtual oddysee. I also recomend this to anyone who has played the real card game because they will have somewhat of an advantage. If you didn't, the game comes with a pretty good online rulebook. I would have given it five stars if instead of paying cash for new cards, you were able to spend virtual points you win from playing and winning.

Overall, I think this is a great game for those that want to play a good strategy game, or if you are a seasoned Magic veteran who wants to find some compitition.

What an INCOMPLETE CD

Now normaly when you buy an online game thats supposed to be a full version, you have expectations of playing that game soon after installing it. Well i must say that i installed this game in the late morning and I am STILL DOWNLOADING files and updates that are an apparent requirement FIVE HOURS later! For all of us that still are in the unfortunate dark age of dial up modems, the phone bill is going to be more expensive then the game is! And i havent even played it yet! If they plan on so many updates for a game that KNOWS it will require them, WotC should constantly send out new UPDATED CD's so that an entire day doesnt have to go by just to start playing a game. So to all those people out there that have dial up like myself, either switch to DSL or cable now or just dont bother with Magic Online. People are complaining about spending money on online cards, im complaining about spending more money on the game itself than i have to!

Nice concept, big moneymaking scheme

This is not the same as playing magic in real life. If you already have a huge collection of real cards like me, you will have to start all over and pay for a bunch of "virtual" cards.
Get the magic the gathering interactive encyclopedia, if you can even find it (I suspect wizards phased it out to make people buy this). It lets you play online and use any cards you want - even replicate your real life deck, or improve it.
The encylopedia does not implement the rules, so you need to make sure you play with people who know them. Otherwise its much better than this.

It's Great! Just like the card game, but online!

The game itself plays great! Like anything, it isn't perfect, but it sure is fun! I love the fact that I can now play online with old friends who no longer live close. Leaping Lizards did a great job, and the game is getting better every day!

So if you're an obsessive-compulsive nut case and unable to control what you spend, then you should probably stay away from this game. It's loads of fun, so you might be hooked. But if you are a semi-normal human being with an ounce of self-control, then you are in for a great time! Play with old friends, and make new ones! I highly recommend it!

Greedy company, but I'm still playing

I was part of the beta for this game and among the hoards who vowed that that they would never submit to this insane pricing plan. Well, it's less than a month since the beta ended, and here I am meekly licking Wizards of the Coast's boots. It's sad, really. Unfortunately, this really does combine everything that made Magic: the Gathering addictive in the first place with the additional conveniences of always being able to find a player and of having the computer act as an automatic rules interpreter.

I will note that the interface could stand a certain amount of improvement. There's absolutely no scroll button support, even for such simple tasks as scrolling through menus, and some of the right click options are less than intuitive. They could also benefit from such features as a way to print your card lists out, an easier way to find open tables (yes, I am familiar with all of the ways to do so -- they're all substandard), and other minor things that I hope will eventually get patched. Overall, though, the interface is well done and do an admirable job of capturing the play and feel of the original game.

But the pricing scheme is still miserable. Do not buy this product! Do not demo it! Stay far away and don't let it hook you. Pity those of us that it has.

Perfect for the lonely player

This is not a game for just anyone, you have to purchase your product as if it were regular MTG. If thats not a problem, or you already play MTG this is pretty close to the real thing. The really great thing besides various types of MTG is that there are tournies, drafts, leagues etc... You can trade cards, chat, post cards for sale. Collecting a whole online set, you can trade it in for a physical set. The gaming options are are endless. Plus if you get home say 3am and want to play, there's always someone to play.

Paying Money for online cards?

This game is one big money-making scheme! OK first you have to buy the game itself. If you do this u can set up an online account without paying the 10 dollars but it wouild be cheaper if you bought the game online without buying the cd! Second you have to buy online decks and cards for the prices they sell them in real life! I mean you have to pay ten dollars for an intangible version of a card that you will never really ever own! All they have to do is lower the prices to about 2 dollars per preconstructee deck adn they will generate much more capital per customer due to the fact that people are turned off by this game due to it's heavy cost! Wizards should be ashamed for making a high priced game like this..it's great to play IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO SPARE. BUYER BEWARE!

You've got to be kidding!

As a long time player, I thought it would be a good idea to be able to play online against anyone anytime. I thought this was the next evolution in the "Magic Interactive Encyclopedia". Instead I find I have to buy electronic cards!! Worst yet, it cost just as much as buying real cards. Imagine now some hacker or fluke incident erases all your cards, what's left? This is the biggest rip off. A better alternative is to find a copy of the Interactive Encyclopedia and just play others online with every card ever made.
