This series has the best batter-pitcher interface, and graphics, but that's about all. The defense and base-running are terrible! It's pretty easy to use a conservative swing and go the other way, but the way the ball reacts after being hit is not good... I've been playing baseball games since the original RBI... I've owned and played at least 25 different bsaeball games, [but] this series is terrible!

"Triple Play Baseball" is a virtual facsimile of "Triple Play 2001". The only difference (and I do emphasize, the ONLY difference) is the updated rosters, stadiums and team uniforms. Fortunately, unlike the Playstation 2 version, Jim Hughson is still the play by play man, and Buck Martinez is still the color commentator (I love those two guys!), but no new dialogue. Beats Sony's "MLB" series to pieces, but shame on EA Sports for their lazy approach to this game.

Based solely on this product, I will never purchase or rent another game made by EA again. While the graphics are adequate, the game play (the most important thing) is like stepping back in time to the early 1980's. More often than not, the game will freeze in extra innings. Also in "Pro" season and playoff mode, the game has a function that will automatically allow the team you are playing to catch up with you. So if you have a five-run lead, the next five guys you pitch to, no matter who they are, will hit solo home runs. Kind of defeats the purpose of competition, doesn't it? Don't bother with this piece of garbage, and that goes for any other EA product as well.

This is the worst game I have ever purchased. Money down the drain. The game constantly freezes, and if you talk to EA sports they tell you to turn your playstation on it's side. Needless to say, it still freezes. It would be a decent game if it didn't freeze up, but there are better baseball games out there. Don't throw away your money like I did.
Absolutely the Best Baseball Game!

This game is great, the graphics are amazing for a playstation game,Buck Martinez and Jim Hughson are great, I especially like the funy advertisements that they do between innings. At the start of the game is shows the players warming up in the outfield and infield and getting ready for the gam. The homeruns are the most exciting thing in a game, with a cannon sound and all sorts of great views of the homerun. The only thing I wish could have been in this game was the Cocoa Cola bottle and Glove in Left Field of Pacific Bell Park. And I think the stadiums do not look as good as they should. Create Player is very cool.
Pros: Great Graphics Exciting Play-by-Play Detailed Create Player mode Great Home Run Views and Sounds Cons: Poor stadium graphics Should be more in a final baseabll Playstation game by EA. No more legends from the past. Overall I still think this is a great game for the casual baseball gamer.

still the same awesome game, but come on, can't we get realistic here? My first few hits were all clean but were declared errors by the computer. There's no passed balls, Wild pitches, or injuries. And how about waiting to set the rosters at least until spring training is under way? Still a good game, but I hope for a lot more in 2002.
Did they just copy tp2001 and put Giambi on the cover?

I decided to take this game from the video store a few days ago surprised to see it still there. A newly released game still there on a friday, wow that is a surprise. I had the knack taht this game would be very similar, i didn't think it would be almost EXACTLY the saem. Not a single new feature. If the game says its going to dazzle you with new rosters you know that there can't be much else. I'm also disturbed with why Buck Martinez is still anouncing. Buck, if you didn't know your coaching the Blue Jays pal. This game really got me mad. Other than new ballparks, the graphics, gameplay, announcing, and overall game is just the saem. 1 word, disgrace.
Save your money if you already have TP2001

It's not the EXACT same game; it's less. Not only did EA not improve on a single aspect of the last version of this game, they seem to have made it worse. The graphics are identical, it's obvious EA maxed out their capabilities a few years ago. Last year's TP was great, because it introduced several new things: the Extreme Hitting challenge, where your hitter must aim for targets in four different fields, and this tons of fun, bringing the simple home run derby into a new universe. Last year EA introduced the option of using old time hitters like Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Satchel Paige, in every area of the game. This especially made the Home Run Challenges more fun, as the old time hitters were given amazing strength in hitting home runs, allowing you to reach targets that normal players aren't capable of reaching, really. The in-game challenges were great, too, as they allowed you to earn power-ups like super-speed and CPU assistance by accomplishing certain tasks. Last year's Triple Play was one of the most innovative in EA's career. This year, they not only re-used all the stadiums exactly as they were (even the Extreme Hitting parks), they removed the old-time hitters, making the hitting challenges difficult and frustrating, as very few players are capable of hitting many home runs. The in-game challenges are still there, though less fun, as last year you could actually earn the old timers to sign to your team. For example, doing a certain thing in the game would free up Babe Ruth, and you could then go and sign him to be your number four hitter or whatever. This year, all you get are big heads and long bats, and tiny players and flaming baseballs. Boring, really. Super speed is very helpful, but I still haven't managed to earn it. I don't know what you have to do to get it. Stupid EA. In any case, all EA can boast with this game is an updated roster (which is updated right about up to the day Manny Ramirez signed with the Red Sox...anybody not signed by then is on the Free Agent List, like David Cone), and two (TWO!) new ballparks, neither of which is anything special. Honestly, as the last PS1 version of this game ever, you'd think they'd try a little harder to make it count. So take my advice; if you already have TP2001, just make the appropriate trades and save yourself the 40 bucks. You won't be gatting anything new at all by buying this game. If you don't have TP2001 (as i didn't when i bought this) then seek it out...it'll come much cheaper, and it's a much better game. I can honestly think of no good reason to buy this game, and the only reason i gave it 3 stars is because in and of itself, it's still a decent game. But don't buy it by any means. i mean that.
