This game, after beating it, became my favorite.
I thought the story was excellent, although there were times during which it was confusing, primarily because the game is set in little chunks of time with different characters, and sometimes you will play events before the events that precede them. I honestly can't complain, since it's still fairly simple to get it all in a (for the most part) logical order. This, however seems to really annoy some people.
The battle system is complex. I played through the game twice and it wasn't until my second time through before the final boss that I even found out you could assign roles to your characters. I guess that's kinda my fault, though, for not reading the manual. The game is extremely difficult for somebody who was weened into the RPG world through Final Fantasy. I would not recommend this to anybody who has played nothing but Final Fantasy games, but rather for people who enjoy resetting their systems several times before getting through a boss. The bosses will surprise you.
The music and graphics are some of the finest. This game accounts for two of the six video game soundtrack related CDs that I have bought, and it's done in a piano-ish classical style. The graphics were almost entirely watercolor painted, and it has the most beautiful backgrounds I have ever seen in a game.
Enjoyable and Fun, But not Great

This game is very fun, first of all. The special effects are cool to watch, But they are very hard to earn. Second of all, the menu let's you select different events any time you want, allowing you to take your own path. And third, The option to go one on one with an enemy is very cool.
The bad sides to this game does stick out. First, the story is wierd, but not bad, nothing compared to the Final Fantasy games, but the battles and graphics make up for it. Second, it is very hard to figure out how to get spells and arts to work, since the Instruction Book dosen't tell you much.
Even though it has bad sides, it is still a game worth the time you put into it. I haven't beat this game yet, so I don't know the endings and all that stuff.

I've rented this game from Blockbuster before, as I could not find any other game to play. I didn't believe it would be a great game for a weekend, but it turns out it is much better! This game has a very profound story line, and it's characters are amazing, with around 25 to play with. You learn many spells and weapon attacks during the course of the game, with finely integrated scenes and battle arenas. I would highly refer this game to anyone who likes RPGs, and I have given this game a 4 Star, as some of the spells and attacks are a tad tough to learn. If you decide to get this game, you will NOT be disappointed.
Well...... It's Certainly Not Saga Frontier 1

I borrowed this game from my friend for laughs, you would no what I mean if you played the first, but I was very wrong. The music is great, very, very catchy, the graphics are good, and the plot is okay. But with all that is good there is flaw, the battle system and the way the game's plot prgress. The battle system is WAY to complicated, with weapon points and all this other junk who has the time! And the plot progression is very weird, you pick what happens by clicking on the scene that you want. This confused me and the plot, watching Gustav's 12 year old story before i watch his 6 year old story. If you liked the first one, which is somewhat impossible, than you'll love the second.
Nice one lads!

Squaresoft is mostly known for it's works of Final Fantasy and Xenosaga. But, there are plenty of other games they've made, and some of them, are actually pretty good. Saga Frontier 2 is really not all that bad, the watercolor graphics are light and a nice change, the music is well done, the story...well, it has a story, let's leave it at that. Sadly, the game is quit tough. Battles can be lengthy, nowhere near Final Fantasy Tactics lengthy, but the enemies are strong. Simply put, this isn't worth the 30 and 40 dollars, if you can find it for 15, as I did, then it will be worth it. A new Saga game has been confirmed, and let's hope that it will expand and improve on this game to the fullest.

This is a great game in every way but it really isn't that big. The Final Fantasy series is much more challenging on the whole but for dedicated RPG fans like myself this is a must buy game.
Another horrible game.

I turned this game off a little way in, I think it was even worse than SF1. Definately a waste of the money I payed to rent the game. So boring.
A Big Improvement

If you were burned by the first SaGa Frontier as so many were don't worry the sequel is better. The story stretches over generations and allows you to play as many different characters. The battle system is pretty similar to the first game. Your character can specialize with different weapons and magic. Square has added a new duel system that breaks the boredom of team battles from time to time. Although it's not a great game it's something to keep you busy until Chrono Cross comes out.
The biggest disappointment of my life

The first SaGa Frontier was absolutely incredible, so I bought this game... without hesitation. I would have been better off buying Soda Caps and root beer. I'm serious. This game is just plain no fun. The gameplay is like SaGa Frontier 1, but with anything to possibly differentiate your characters removed almost entirely. The fighting is pure tedium. The story, while better than the first game, is like reading an encyclopedia. Everything that made SaGa Frontier 1 so great has been removed or replaced.
Two stars for the graphics and the concept.
