I love puzzles... I mean, I LOVE PUZZLES.
But I don't love this.
Not only is this game boring, the graphics aren't too great either (even for PS one... my other games look better than this).
I think I'm better off playing puzzle games online for free...
This is a great game but...

if you want to play it, get "Real Myst" or "Myst Masterpiece" Myst: Masterpiece Edition because 'Myst' is the first game published by Cyan and it was made before a lot of the graphics advances we see today. So the backgrounds are 2-dimensional photographs. I'm glad to have it in my collection for that reason - it's fun to see the difference in technology. But, there is an additional level in Real Myst so it will be the better value. (I don't know about the additional level in Myst Masterpiece but is it probably there). Besides I think you will only find a used copy of the original Myst today. There are 5 Myst games and the same developer made games called 'Uru'. These are 'mental' games, like Chess, rather than action games. If you like swinging a sword, you probably won't like Myst. The artwork and music are excellent: unique, mystical and definitely transport you to different worlds.

Okay I'm not totally lowbrow, I can get puzzles (I got near the end of this game called Lighthouse). I couldn't get this at all when I played it, not even a bit. You roam around this island getting fragmented information, and at least on the computer the puzzle hit-detection seemed weak, so trying to access the puzzles themselves even with a guide was a frustrating endeavor. The puzzles themselves were bad enough, but the fact that solving some of them didn't seem to change anything discernible (at least in the early stages of the game) meant I ultimately gave up in frustration. Not to mention it wasn't even fun.
Instead of this, I'd recommend Okami or any other hybrid puzzle-rpg. If you can't figure out the puzzle with the tools possessed, you can at least take out your frustrations on a hapless creature in battle.
Best Thinking Game EVER!!!

This series is a great one to own. I only wish they'd put more out for the PS2. I heard that Myst: Uru was too "big" to put on the PS2. Whatever. They were probably too lazy. The last Myst game I played was Myst III:Exile. I'm not a big fan on playing PC based games. Especially after reading the hit and misses people were experiencing when trying to load Myst IV:Uru on their PCs.
Now on to Myst. My first experience with Myst was Riven. After playing that game I felt the need to get the first one. Sure enough!!! It was available for the Playstation. I got it and became immersed. I actually beat the game, but I have to admit, I did use a guide at one time. I'm not very proud of that!!!!
Anyway, I love the game, I introduced this game to my 6 year old who doesn't play, but likes to watch me play. One bit of IMPORTANT advice I can give you as help is to use your EARS!!! Yep, recognize the sounds of Myst. Not just the sights!! It helped me to overcome the underground subway level. Had it not been for another area where I learned to recognize certain sounds I would've been lost in there for a long time!!!
Get this game if you want a game of exploration and brain-teasing. Note: It's NOT an RPG. In the traditional sense. We need MORE games like this. Less violence.

Not for the weak of mind. Play this game with your family to figure out all the puzzels if your confused. It is probably the best family game ever invented. The worlds and puzzles this game brings you, are incredibly creative and beautiful. It was a great enjoyment playing and beating this game with my family.
Myst is a great game but NOT an RPG

Myst is a game of strategy. You must use your mind to figure out the puzzles. Sometimes they might be confusing or very tough. But thats just the fun of this great game. Graphics are very nice in Myst. This game should be a must have for anyone who likes strategy-type games.
I didn't get it

I don't know what the big deal is about this game. It looks pretty, but I was totally lost. I had no idea what...I was doing...just wandering around. That kind of ruins the fun of a game for me. It's hardly what I would call an RPG...
It's a Puzzle

This game sure is a little confusing at times, but it is also fun. I garentee you that unless someone or something tells you how to win this game, you will be playing it at least a year before you beat it. The whole game is like a a puzzle. A GREAT THINKING GAME!
Worth the Money.....

This needs to be said: HANG IN THERE. Yes, MYST seems like a damn MENSA test at times, and unlike other adventure/strategy games (such as the ZORK series), lacks alot of character interaction.
However, if you hang in there, make it to the next world, and the one after that, and the first few obstacles in your way, you'll be hooked. The game becomes delightfully addictive, and you can't wait to see what unfolds in this dream-like world next.
I mark this title off a notch, however, for seeming to appeal only to hard-core tekkies (I said TEKKIES, not TREKKIES)...sometimes it's just extremely difficult, and you will find yourself reffering to a hint guide at one point or another. Also, the ending is inconclusive. Completely unsastisfactory. Get there and you'll see what I mean.
No matter what platform you play it on, though, or how hard it may seem, you still have a great time with this game and feel very gratified with each obstacle you overcome.
