I bought this game for my fiancee for her birthday, thinking that we could spend hours of quality time together playing Monopoly. We have the board game, of course, but have you ever really PLAYED an entire game of Monopoly? With 2 people? First of all, Monopoly with 2 people is about as much fun as washing dishes. Your turn, her turn, one of you wins...there's no drama, no conflict, no spice. You need four of five people for a decent game. Secondly, a game of Monopoly takes about as long as the Spanish-American War, and with our busy schedules it's hard to pencil in six or seven hours a day just for Monopoly. And we can't just leave the board and come back later because we have two cats, and as any feline owner knows a board game sitting vulnerable on a table is an invitation for an attack from Catzilla. I can just see myself coming home, plans for developing Ventor Avenue percolating in my head all afternoon, only to find the board on the floor, my carfully constructed houses and hotels scattered on the rug, my lucky race car token buried deep in the litter box. I couldn't bear the thought of it.
So let modern technology solve my problem. With a Monopoly video game we could play for an hour, save the game, and come back 3 days later to resume the struggle. We could even add a few computer players to increase the fun. Brilliant.
But no such luck. Monopoly on a TV screen is much, MUCH more boring that on the board. The view you have of the board is bizarre, like you're looking down on it from peanut heaven at a bad baseball stadium. One of the little pleasures of the board game is ratting the dice in your hands, praying for that lucky throw. There's none of that in a video game. When your piece moves around the board it does so in an annoying animated sequence that grows tiresome after like the third round. And the computer players are bor-ing. You can't laugh at them when they're destitute and land on your property nor curse them when you have to fork over an exorbitant rent. You can't collude with a computer player to halt the domination of some stronger third player. You can try, but it's boring. Terribly boring.
So let's face it-- video games are great, technology is wonderful, but nothing will ever replace the pleasure of unfolding the board on a big table, riffing through a thick wad of rainbow-colored cash, and feeling the cold steel of your favorite token. Unless someone comes out with a really good virtual reality Monopoly with computer opponents that have the processing power of the IBM computer who beat the world chess champion. Until that day comes, stick with the good ol' analog version, and skip this unsatisfactory copy.

Why would they release a game that Isn't fully complete? Hasbro should have the decency to work on this game even more and the manufacturers should test this game out before it can be sold in stores! They left out the computer AI knowledge on betting the properties rather than just constantly trading opponents with small amounts of cash for yours; None of them have a different trading personality, The "Advance Token To The Nearest Utility" card is not included in the deck, and the purple properties are NOT highlighted when they get bought on the screen! It should be illegal to manufacture a game that isn't made completely! They should get there act together and either re-release this game so everything is complete or start releasing it on Playstation 2 with the entire game COMPLETELY MADE!!

            Well, the good points...
The game manages to include most of the Monopoly rules correctly, and allows some of the common home varients to be used as well. It may just be up to par for play against human opponents on a PSone with travel screen for rainy hollidays.
But... the computer A.I. is atrocious. I am sure no one actually game-tested this product to see if it could play the game with any skill. Most seven year olds will beat this at the hardest level without difficulty. The A.I. contains no concept of the value of property, or property sets...

If you have other real people to play this game with, this is a fun way to play Monopoly because all of the time you normally waste digging for pieces or cards and counting money is done away with.
However, playing the computer is no fun what so ever because it has been programmed to be such an abysmal player. It offers you cash for properties based only on their mortgage value. Thus it will buy a property for two hundred dollars one turn, and sell it to you the very next turn for $100- and this is only one example of how much of a dunce it is as an oponent. So if you were hoping that you could finally spend your nights playing Monopoly without having to invite a bunch of people over, I am sorry to say you will be sorely disapointed.

I loved the idea of being able to play it without all the set up and mess......but after playing it a few times it can get rather boring. If i would have rented this game first i probally would not have purchased it. I have not tryed playing it with more that 2 people... i could see where this would make it more fun.

you remember how much fun it was to play Monopoly when you were a kid? It's just as fun now- but better! You can stop the game at any time and save it to your memory card. That way you are able to come back and continue playing again later. The graphics are pretty good, But the music is a little annoying. All and all a fabulous update on a classic.

Remember Monopoly? Remember setting up the Chance and Community Chest cards in the middle of the board? Remember handling all those tiny houses and hotels? Remember rolling the dice and knocking all the little houses and hotels and cards all over the table and floor? My family loves Monopoly -- until it comes time to set everything up. So this game was great for us. The game recognizes that everyone has their own Monopoly rules and allows you to customize the game to fit your traditions. (My family, for example, plays that you get double your money when you land on Go and that you collect all the fines from the game when you land on Free Parking.) I disagree with the statement in the "professional" review above about not being able to see what property your opponents' own -- there is a grid on each players' icon that lights up with the properties you own and if you want to see more details, you can just go into the trading area of the screen. Anyway, we find ourselves playing Monopoly WAY more than we did when we had to drag out the board, set it all up, etc. It IS Monopoly -- we find it takes about 2 hours to play a long game. The only complaint we have: it seems to get a little buggy when you play with the Thimble token. Maybe it's just our game, but whenever we play with that token, it makes errors like not paying people when they pass Go, paying too much rent and sometimes it says someone has won the game when they actually went Bankrupt. Overall, a good game, though if you're a Monopoly fan.

A nicely done adaption for the Playstation. Although I do not agree with the auctioning of properties, all of the fun is still intact from the board game. A must for Monopoly lovers who want to play it even more!

This game is GREAT! It has lots of great features, like trades. The animation is really cute. And if you can't find anyone to play against you, challenge one of the computer players! If you love the Monopoly board game, you'll love this. Like the origanal, however, this game can get boring if you play it too much.

This is a great game to play with a friend or two or more. It's still fun to play it by yourself but it's definately better as a multiplayer game. This game is pretty addicting, so if you have alot of time to kill this is the perfect game for you. Hopefully there will be an upgraded version for this on the Playstation 3 but I highly recommend this game.
