Good Game, Bad Graphics

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 14

OK, I'm so glad that I didn't buy this game, instead I rented it. Thank god! This game was horrible! I liked the idea of the game (sort of like a stoneage James Bond feel) where you run around a city and shoot bad guys, find items, and destroy tanks and cars. That was cool. BUT the graphics of this game were HORRIBLE! They are about the same quality of Doom, or lower! When you are walking the walls of the buildings have a wave effect, and the enemies and scenery are all blockey and look dumb. Also you get stuck on everything! When you turn the corner you get stick on the side of the wall, when your entering a room you get stuck on the door frame, when you try and go down the stairs, you get stuck. Argh!! It's so FRUSTRATING!! There are also medicine packs all over the place so you never get killed! Overall this game would have been great if it had better graphics, but it didn't, .... I finished 4 levels in under 1 hour, and then gave up, because it was all the same (the bad guys look the same, the scenery is the same, etc) I would HIGHLY suggest renting this game before buying it so you can see for yourself. I'm glad I did! :(

ok, but don't believe the hype

There are so many twitches and bugs to this game, I don't know where to begin. Enemies have this uncanny and infintely irritating ability to swing one arm around walls while holding an eight pound rifle, aim it, fire about twenty perfect torso shots at you, and hit you after you have ducked behind a wall for cover. This is inexcusable not to mention unrealistic. Totally unforgiveable in my book. Another gem is when you have the sniper rifle at night. You can be crouched behind cover around 100 yards away from your target, and soon as you sight in on your target's head or chest, he will instantly turn and fire at you, even if he was completely unaware of your presence before. Ridiculous! Give me a break! And the weapons! You sometimes have what appears to be a model 1911 .45 cal pistol. I have put 17 (yes, that's seventeen) torso shots into a German at close range before he finally died! This is not uncommon, either. [weak]! Realistically speaking, one or two shots anywhere on your body from a .45 and you are going down, period. End of story. One in the chest or head and most die. Whatever! THE ONLY decent gun is the that looks like an HK MP5. The game can be maze-like, repetitive, and simple. You WILL GET HIT A LOT, but there are many health items. I could go on and on, but I think the point is made.

This game is not even close to being the best 1st person shooter ever. Please! Not even close. This review is the real smack on this game. The narration and war scenes definitely add to the game, and the story is cool. Overall, its ok at best.

This game could have been the greatest!

What a tragedy this is. It has almost everything going for it. Medal of Honor: Underground sports the best sounds in any game I've ever heard. The ambiant noise in the background is just spooky! Sometimes I can't tell if those footsteps I'm hearing is just part of the track playing or if I have woken up a guard- which means they have seamlessly instilled a sense of danger just by their background music. Also, I like the fact that you are using authentic weapons. None of this "alien lazer gun" crap. The graphics would be passable for the game, but this is where we start running into problems.
For one thing, you can wake up a guard halfway across the level, run all the way back to the starting point, and have him standing miles away from you, emptying clip after clip of ammunition into the walls. And the worst part is, a lot of these bullets, due to the HORRIBLE clipping problems in this game, pass right through said walls and hit you! Not only this, but you can expect to take a ton of hits in this game. True, health packs are plentiful, but doesn't that cut down on the realism? I want a game where my character is somewhat human. Any real person could not take 30 or more bullets to put down. Neither could their opponents. In fact, those Nazis must have undergone some kind of genetic splicing, as they all are some of the best crackshots I have ever seen. I could be standing at one end of a 50 yard bridge (as I have in one of the later levels) waiting to pick someone off, when all of a sudden bullets start whizzing out of the darkness right at my head! This is absolutely inexcusable. My enemies should have the same field of vision as me. And maybe, if it isn't too much to ask, some of their shots could miss their target once in a while.
It saddens me that one of the greatest attempts at a realistic war game ends up being such a flop. I refuse to even look at the first game, despite the rave reviews. This is the closest I have ever come to breaking my PS controller. Back slowly away from this one...

The Second Time is always better!!

Man, after getting through the first Medal of Honor, I erased my old game and started over. 4 months later, I'm doing it again in the second installment of the hopefully long lasting Medal of Honor series. This game has improved in every way, the graphics, the sound, the AI, have all been jacked up so high, at times I simply blow away by the attention to detail! In the first one, the AI was good, but left something to be desired. For example, you shoot a guy in the leg and run, he will give up the chase after a while, and when you come back to the same spot, he's there on patrol again, no more aware of his surroundings than before. Not in this game, you walk into an area with a sentry, and the light sound of you cocking your gun, or even switching to another gun will quickly cause a flurry of bullets to come flying at you. That brings me to the game's only downside, the difficulty. The Nazis never miss! You take off at a dead run and a guy is on top of a ledge eating (literally), he's gonna put 10 bullets in you as soon as you see him! Aside from that, the game is awesome, the music sets the mood, the vehicles like motorcycles and tanks add a lot of variety, the graphics are amazing and the AI is fantastic! One mission in the game is in Paris, I was walking around in this business and redidential area, and you know what came to mind, Saving Private Ryan. The AI french resistance guys (the good guys) were cool and the area looked just like that part in the movie! GET THIS GAME!!!!

Pretty Much the Same as Before...

... so in other words, it's "Superb!" I can't give it 5 stars because there isn't much improvement in graphics or gameplay. They could've just issued this game out with the original Medal of Honor as disc 2 and you wouldn't know the difference.

However, the story line is great and the suspense in gameplay is as intense as before. There are some new weapons and AI buddies that fight with you briefly during some missions. Enemies are pretty much the same but with different vehicles and modes of destruction. Other than that, you've got the same game. The music once again enhances the action on the screen. Sound effects are untouchable as well.

If you liked the original Medal of Honor, pick this game up.

Main gripe: Kind of easy like the first one. You'll probably finish it in a week or so. If you want to save money but enjoy the game, rent it a few times.

Great Game, A few flaws

Well, this game is one of the best PS1 games that I own.I enjoy it thouroughly almost never getting bored of it.I've beaten the game about twice, then I found all the cheats...different story. But the sound in MOH2 is one of the best, graphics are excellent for a PS1 and the guns and fighting are very realistic. The one thing that keeps MOH2 from getting that 5th star is the different graphic flaws and the over strength(at times) of the nazi enemies...The weapons and the different levels are great and I never get bored of it and the minor problems I mentioned are doable so overall I enjoy it. I would say to rent it first unless you love 1st person shooters and a good challenge/piece of history.

Still a good game but some flaws take away a star

If you read my review on the original, you will recall I said it was "the greatest video game I've ever played." This is a good game too, but unfortunately I didn't feel it lived up to the original, and in fact, I found a few flaws, that took away from my enjoyment.

It's pretty much the same format and control scheme as the original, which makes it a very enjoyable game, very easy to learn. Unfortunately for me, this game seems to be quite a bit harder and in the later (bonus) missions, it becomes frustratingly difficult to the point of where I finally gave up without finishing it. I do not agree with the thinking of a lot of game designers who think if you just make a game harder, that will make it more enjoyable.

I was very disappointed when I got to the "bonus" missions. One of the strengths of Medal of Honor is that you are engaging real enemies, i.e. Nazi soldiers (no monsters, aliens, etc). Well in the final missions of Underground, you encounter exploding robots and dogs who drive halftracks, carry machine guns, and bazookas. Totally ridiculous and a total departure from the overall historical context of the game.

Finally I found a few bugs. Enemies that had been defeated came back to life, objectives that were cleared, were suddenly uncleared, enemies with Xray vision and worse, "x-ray bullets", and enemies who literally appeared right before your eyes.

Overall it's a fun game, I'm glad I bought it, but I'm disappointed in it and would be a little skeptical if there is ever another sequel.

EA drafts another soldier into the battlefield.

I first got medal of honor about a month ago, and it was pretty good..then I realized the little flaws such as when Manon jumps she doesn't groan or nothing or when she walks you don't hear footsteps. Those two gripes don't effect the gameplay but EA should be smart enough to include realism.Other then that the soundtrack is great I swear it has audio from those fateful times..the gunshots are authentic and the enemies grunts and groans add some entertainment..I just love showing guards fake identification and shooting them in the head when they turn around. Another gripe I have is sometimes simple tasks are difficult such as walking through doorways or past large objects such as tanks after they are destroyed.Another problem with the game is that it is brutally linear it tells you when to hit the action button and stuff. The graphics are pretty good..for the Ps1 which is not saying much.It has its flaws but it is still one of the best first person shooters for the Ps1 it is a good game for a war buff or someone who wants a decent shooting game..

Best First Person Shooter for the PSX Out There!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

I remember how hard it was to find a GOOD first person shooter for the PSX (of course, the PS2 has tons of them) and finally comming upon this one. I was impressed immediately. The graphics were well done and the AI, while eventually becomming slightly predictable, was reasonable and well designed. The levels are intricate, but generally linear. I would have liked to be able to open more doors other than the absolutely necessary ones.

The storyline is intricate, taking you through almost every stage of WWII up to and including the Liberation of France and the fall of Hitler. Complete with about a half hour (estimated) of real WWII footage, the mission briefings come to life like never before. The weapons are all real WWII weapons; everything from the Panzerfaust, to the Stick Handgrenade, to the SMG 40.

The reason it is at a four star rating and not a five is because of several bugs throughout the game. Many missions can be completed cheaply by tricking the AI through walls (or sometimes even shooting through walls) or hiding behind other guards. Another VERY annoying problem is that your character gets stuck on walls. It is impossible to slide along the side of a wall without getting jerked around. All in all however, a very well designed game; best FPS for the PSX.

Great Game!!!

Firs of all, I just want to say why i didn't give this game 5 stars. The only reason why was because the way that the camera is, it sometimes becomes nauseating. Other than that, the game is great, fun, and challenging. It has great codes, including invincibility mode, unlimited ammo, weak enemies, and many more for free at [website]. If you want a great shooter game, buy it. If you don't, then don't get it.
