As i first looked upon the cover and saw a game that i wanted to believe as being what i was always looking for, sadly i was mistakin. The game is very standard. simple backgrounds, yet fitting for the martial arts genre. Many different styles of fighters with certain distinguishing stances and strikes. when you begin play, you fight a couple characters, and the game seems alright, untill you kill a few more and it's over. NO story line with the fighters you have, no real point except the fighting, very sad. I looked past that expecting the fighter designer to raise up where the regular game seemed to drop off. When you begin to create your own fighter you soon realize that you can only use the characters that already exist, so the chance of variety is quickly killed off. The idea is very good, and it could have been done alot better. Making a fighter is very long and complex, definately not for the average gamer. Overall: Too much work for such little result.

When I first heard of this game in my PSM I was excited,PSM warned that the fighting engine sucked ,but I thought it would atleast be at the Atari level. I was wrong. The whole concept of creating your own moves is great but it doesn't matter how good your moves are if the fighting engine can't do its job----by working. I had more fun Playing Karate Champ on Nintendo many years ago. This game has limited opponents, poor graphics, no endings for any of the characters. This game is the worst game I've ever played on the Sony Playstation, possibly any game system.

This game is HORRORBLY DONE! you know there is even a better game that does slightly better that everyone hates and it is Deadly Art.
This game could have been GREAT, but it messes up in alot of ways which is really sad... The fighting of the game I don't think is that bad cept the control is hard since it's not your normal duck or jump buttons. and I think the charicters don't look to bad. However! since the idea of the game was to creat your own fighter you are far from what it should be. You DON'T actully creat a fighters apperence, what they look like will always be the same and already made for you. Now you get to edit your fighters moves and such but if you have no hacking skill it is extremly Hard. and more so. you dont' even get to see your fighter move while your making the changes to his fighting, you just see him stand there. You instead just have to notice the lines... it gets confusing.
this game is horrorbly done really, I just hope someone can make such a game but What it should be ALOT better then this stuff.
WHY?!!!

This game is about as much fun as taking a knife and cutting your tongue and swishing rubbing alcohol in your mouth to kill off the germs on your tongue. This is one of my top 10 worst games of all time. I understand it can take some time making a move but it's really not worth it and the results are terrible. I tried to make a simple flip kick and I ended up getting a leg touching the character's face, the head actually reaching on the chest and so forth. Seriously, don't waste your time and money on this piece of crap.

I liked the ability to create moves and all or use existing moves to make some godlike fighter. I gave it the time but there were a few things that drove me to get this. 1.In hopes that agetec would release RPG maker in the US. 2.I really believed it was indeed state of the art. 3.I thought that there were backgrounds I mean this even makes Kensei look good. I also did not enjoy the horrible characters they give you to do this with.(One looks like Skullomania from Street Fighter EX, and another looks like a rip off of Tiger Jackson from Tekken 3.) I also did not like the fact that a save takes up 15 blocks of memory I know your are saving a lot but that is a whole memory card. It also does not load correctly in case you wish to delete it, so if you save make sure you really like this game.
Hope you have a lot of free time

This game takes forever to get into. There is a VERY basic fighting game already programmed in but that won't hold your attention at all. To really enjoy this game, you need to first completely understand all of its functions first. And I'm not talking about a cursory reading of the manual. You really have to know what your doing. You go in and frame by frame program the moves for your character and the opponent. If you're a budding programmer out there who thinks they can challenge the programmers of various fighting games, here's your shot. But it will take you a while.
Aight,I Haven't played it,so I'm giving it a 3

I liked this "game." I placed the word game in quotes because it's more like entry-level animation software. I think many of the critics were too harsh in that this was far more a simulation/construction type of software than a lightning fast fighting game. For that I have games like SoulCalibur. If anything, it plays a great deal like Virtua Fighter 1.
The models that they give you aren't among the most original, but they do what they were intended to do. Given the limitations of the PS1 and the fact that this was on a single disc, I was amazed at what the software *did* allow you to do. The limitations of the wireframe models in the animate mode can get annoying, but they're easy to fix--simply confirm the selection, if the orientation is wrong, you can go back into that particular command menu and solve the problem.
The frame by frame animation is quite good-if you're willing to put in the time and make what animators call "key frames" every five frames or so. The computer will do a good job getting from point A to point B most of the time, and if it's a simple movement it usually looks pretty natural. If it's more complex--like someone falling--it helps to plan your movement scheme out ahead of time and most of all, *be patient.* Also, don't expect a lot of background music. It helps to listen to your favourite CDs while building your characters.
I give it four stars because I don't like the fact it requires an entire memory card to save one character. Considering the amounts of information that must be stored it's not surprising, but I have better things to spend my money on than a slew of memory chips.
Also, the manual is not the most helpful thing in the world. It gives good pointers but that's about it, you'll probably learn more by actually playing with the controls and making mistakes.
This is no Maya, but it's a decent intro to the world of 3-D animation for a total layman or someone with only a passing knowledge of the subject. After messing with this software for most of the last couple days, I've grown to respect animators for the amount of work that they do. It's not easy to make a simple movement look natural, but with the right amount of dedication it can happen. This is a good introduction to that craft.

Ok I can understand the merit of these bad reviews, but I think your being overly critical. Forget the regular game as it is lame, no doubt;but, the edit mode is deep and provided me with the most enriching experiance I ever had in front of a Television. THIS GAME TAKES TIME! Plain and simple. I felt the so called "professional critic" missed the boat on this game entirely. Fighter maker is for an intelligent creative gamer who always fantasized about making a fighter with moves dreamt up from his own brain. This is where this game DELIVERS! Look beyond the obvious design flaws(like not being able to edit the appearance). Look forward to the upcoming RPG maker, imagine creating your own RPG!
