Surprisingly inspired gameplay and graphics

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 8 / 11

Although I typically only play games such as Warcraft III, Splinter Cell, Freedom Force, and Neverwinter Nights, I was nicely surprised at the overall quality of this title.

While it only takes a few hours to achieve the five-star park rating to 'win' (although you can choose to continue), it's a whole lotta fun getting there. Primarily due to an almost incessant amount of in-game 'emails' (although the idea works nicely), you'll constantly be checking on your genetics lab, your fossil dig sites, your park research, your beloved dinosaurs, park management, and deciding what to build/create next that you'll rarely have time to actually enjoy the park you're creating! The game includes excellent training exercises (plus it practically holds your hand the entire game, anyway) and a few superfluous yet well-done missions - added, I'm sure, to make this game seem longer.

Although it has a few quirks (as most games do), its inspired gameplay and notable graphics make this a short, sweet, and fairly polished title that deserves more recognition from the mainstream game press than it's getting.

awesome game, needs some work

this is and awesome game. it would be five stars except for one thing: if you get good at it it gets boring. now i know this sounds general, but it's true. one way it's true is the fact that you only have so much space because you're on an island. because you only have so much room, you can only build so many objects. take feeders, for instance. you can only build eight feeders in your park. you also have a limited amount of species of animals you can create. in addition to that, you also have very little buildings you can build.
now that i've gotten past all the bad stuff, we can get to whats good about this game. the grafics are awesome, the idea of dinosaurs is cool, making money is generaly pretty easy, and you have mini games you can play.
i say this is a game worth buying. my suggestion to get past all the bad stuff is to not get stuck on one game. start lots of new games so when you're board with one game you can switch to another.

I can't add much of a better review than what is already here but I too played the demo and was very excited by it. I am a HUGE Jurassic Park fan and found it completely exhilarating. Universal has used its license to the extreme. All the wonderful elements are here: John Williams soundtrack, real sounds from the movie (the T-Rex has the same train sound), logos and even ambiance of being there. The graphics are amazing. I always found the idea of a dinosaur theme park very interesting and that is what I loved about the movie. This game gives that same feeling to me. What would it be like to visit (in this case run) a dinosaur theme park? In the movie, it becomes a disaster. But this is my opportunity to see Jurassic Park run as a full functioning park with "real" visitors. This looks to be one of the best Jurassic Park licensed games.

THE MOVIE BECOMES THE GAME

IF ANYONE LIKES DINO'S AND SIMULATION GAMES, THEY WILL LOVE THIS GAME! THE MOMENT YOU MAKE YOUR FIRST DINO, YOU KNOW YOUR GONNA ENJOY THIS GAME, WITH ALL THE SELECTION OF DINO'S AND BUILDINGS, THIS GAME ROCKS! THE CONTROLS CAN BE A BIT CONFUSING, BUT AFTER A WHILE YOU"LL BE PLAYING LIKE A PRO. AS YOU BUILD YOUR PARK, YOU CAN MAKE UP TO 25 DINO'S, FROM O'L REX, TO A HOMPOACHELI. THE GRAPHICS ARE UNBIEVABLY REAL. YOU CAN BUILD A PARK, TAKE ON 12 DANGEROUS MISSIONS , FROM TAKING A SAFARI, TO SAVING JOHN HAMMOND FROM A ROUGH TYRANNOSUARUS. YOU CAN ALSO DO EXERSISES TO PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR $ JOURNEY TO THE TOP. AFTER YOU UNLOCK SITE B ( IT'S A SECRET,HE HE HE!) YOU CAN MAKE YOUR DINOSAURS AND WATCH THEM RUN FREE. I RECOMEND THIS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DO SOME RESAERCH.( HEY, IT'S THE CLOSEST THING WE GOT!?) IF PARENTS ARE WORRIED ABOUT BLOOD, THERE'S BARELY ANY. THIS IS A GREAT PRESENT FOR ANY JURASSIC PARK FAN!

More fun than a barrel of dinosaurs

To restate what has been previously said ... this game is awesome! Personally, I find it more enjoyable than other sim games out there, but then again, I'm a big fan of dinosaurs and the Jurassic Park series.

For those that play RollerCoaster Tycoon, you will enjoy the building-your-own-theme-park concept. While the park is more attraction that rides, there's still plenty of activity to keep you busy. The idea of being able to create live exhibits that you can customize is more exciting than building a roller coaster. It's like comparing Sea World to parks with animatronics. Live animals are much more fun than mechanequins (my own word for mechanical-mannequins).

My favorite part is seeing many different species of dinosaurs and learning their history as you place them in different paddocks. Some visitors get excited about "authenticity" - that is keeping dinosaurs together that belong in their time period or location where they were found. Other visitors enjoy seeing raw animal carnage while others get excited about the calm friendly dinosaurs playing and interacting with each other. Providing an even mix in your park is the key to success. Hearing the announcer telling the park guests about new dinosaur arrivals seems so real; I get excited to see my newest exhibit. The sound effects and the wonderful John Williams music that underscores the game play often make you feel like you are watching a movie that you are directing yourself (watch out Mr. Spielberg).

For PC players, learning how to edit the INI file is cheating but provides opportunities to build your park with more thought and planning than just hoping to avoid bankruptcy ... or worse. While generally not a violent game, it is sometimes fun to allow a T-Rex to escape and munch on a guest, but with careful planning, your design can be safer than ... Jurassic Park.

The dinosaurs are: Dryosaurus, Kentrosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurs Rex, Triceratops, 'Velociraptor', Camarasaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Allosaurus, Albertosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Carcharadontosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Gallimimus, Edmontosaurus, Homalocephale, Ouranosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Styracosaurus, and a Torosaurus. (Might have missed one)

Overall, the graphics are stunning beyond all normal human conception, the reactions were believable and there was also some possibly unintended humor (ex: a Pachy could get her tail stuck in the viewing dome door). Sad to say there are no Pterosaurs nor an Iguanodon. There are limited amounts of buildings and fences, but, if you have it for PC, but that can be fixed if edit the game's files (backups=must in case you mess up). Almost never gets boring, though creating a 5-star zoo may take a while, it's great to see the result: cash. Also, there are a few strange things that can occur. In my game, my Carcharadontosaurus protected a herd of mixed herbivores, which included its favorite prey, from everything from a Dilophosaurus to a Spino and Rex themselves. Bonding, isn't it great? Ah, so, yes, worth your time and money indeed. The herbivores defend themselves, and even kill the predators once in a while. Also, all the big carnivores get edgy when a safari ride is on tour: don't make one in a large carni's habitat; it won't last long. Hope this has been of help.

Very fun, but can get a little easy

I've had this game for about a month now, and I love it! I play it just about every day! The graphics are great, but unless you have the right hardware, or a newer computer, you won't get as good of graphics, like reflective water. I highly recomend that you buy this game. If you already have this game, or are soon to, I would like you to answer a question for me. I have heard that one of the features in the game is that there is a dino vet you can go to and brew chemicals to control the dinos to be hungry, sleep, angry, ect. But I don't have it on my game! It's driving me crazy! I need to know where to find it on my game, or if it realy exsists! Please email me at: [...]. So if that is on your game, please tell me where I can find it on mine.

Great game!! I admit, as have others, that pulling down the raptor fence can be very amusing. Playing the game to completion is satisfying and challenging as well. I also own and play Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection, and this compares favoribly (probably because the challenges and goals are so vastly different, even if the goal is the same)

This is an edgier game, but also a great deal of fun with challenges that include Natural Disasters and Murphy's law.

Great way to lose large hunks of time.

Bad timing and previously average Jurassic Park games kept this from being a hit.

This game pretty much came out after the Jurassic Park boom had passed. Added to the fact that there were previous Jurassic Park games that were not as good probably caused many people to overlook this game. Had this game come out at the peak of the movies and before other Jurassic Park games it would have been a huge hit. Easily the best Jurassic Park game that nobody played. Actually many never even heard of the game because it came out late in the Jurassic Park boom and subsequently not a lot of money was spent on publicity.

Good Game - A little too easy

In Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis the object of the game is to build a dinosaur park from scratch and make it into a five star attraction.

At the start of the game you will be working with limited funds (no way to borrow money from the bank) and many requests for money. You must build fences, paths, ranger stations, visitor center and other park essentials while trying to provide funding for reasearch & development, buying fossil hunters and visitor security.

I have not figured out how the game determines your star rating. You have zero stars at the start and win with five stars at the end. Most times I can get to five stars fairly quick, but there are the occasional games where it seems nothing I do is right. You can keep playing after you reach the five star level, but then the game gets a little repetitive - the same dinosaurs suffering the same problems that must to be fixed right now is just one example.

To keep it interesting, you are given natural disasters to deal with too. Make sure you have enough visitor shelters - after all, you don't want your guests to be eaten by rampaging dinosaurs!

I found the Missions section of this game to be very interesting. From the start screen you can choose the Missions button and get involved in some pretty good dinosaur adventures. This part of the game is also good for tuning up your skills as a helicopter pilot and marksman.

Jurassic Park has good graphics and realistic game play. The various functions of the game are easy to learn and use. The only problem is that it is just too easy to get that five star rating.
