Upon reading the back of this case I thaught this game would be great. I alos was happy to find Namco doing a game that isn;t fighting or Racing. This game mixes elements from a lot of other rpg games I have played and most of the time when there is a lot of diffrent systems in one RPG game it is great. Too Bad this wasn't the case with Dragon Valor. I am so sick with myself for shelling out [price] for this. I guess im stuck with it until Arc The Lad comes out for Psone if it isn't delayed again. I would also like to make one last note. Namco stick to Fighting and Racing.

This is a very unique game from characters, to story line, to game play. It has a fairly large learning curve, meaning it will take you awhile to get used to all of the many moves and functions of the game, however once you have a pretty good grasp of how to play, the game itself is very challenging and fun.
For as old of a game as this is, the CG movies are class, and the voice acting isn't to bad. The differences in the available extrats and endings makes this game worth a try.

Dragon Valor is a very good game. I really enjoyed playing it,mostly the three possible ways to go. But, be warned, some of these bosses will really make you mad, especially Dahaka. I'm still trying to beat that little....uh...meanie..yeah, meanie. If you like RPGs play this game!

...This game kicks...I loved every milla seconed of it. The only thing I didn't like was the shop but that didn't stop me. I could play it over and over. I like the princess family line more then the inventor. The drangon bosses were so beautifully graphed it was a shame to kill them and Dahakna (forgot how to spell it) was easy after you know how to beat him...

It's a fun game, yes, but lacking the depth you'de expect from reading about it... the first generation you gt to chose which girl you marry... Princess or inventor? You can marry the Princess ONLY if you can find her (which I have yet to find,) and from there the following generations... well... seperate for a while, though the two different gerneologies come together later in the game. It's pretty good in graphics, but you can't move the camera where you want it, so a lot o fthings are hidden behind objects and you miss them. Besides that, unlike many RPG's I'e played, there's no special screen when you encounter an enemy (but not having this let them improve the graphics a great deal), and no level gaining, weapon changing, or other things of that nature. You can't play as more then one character at a time, and (aw...dmit!) most of the things you find around that boost your stats disappear after one generation. Other then that, there are some puzzles, simple to progress the game and harder to get extra things, eight different elemental spells that change as you get higher levels of them (fire, ice, lighting, healing, mines, vortexs, defense, and stealth,). Over all, it's fun if you can stand collecting things over a lot. The bosses are fun, not usually really hard, but challenging enough to be fun. I'd recommend it to anyone who's into fighting-magic games.

Dragon Valor is one of those games that are really average. Everything about them is so average that all that mediocrity kills it in the end, even though it doesn't really do anything particularly poorly.
Dragon Valor is an action-RPG where your dragon-slaying avatar hacks and slashes his or her way through dungeons in an adventure that spans five scenarios and four generations. One of the features that you might think would make the game interesting is the ability to decide who you will marry and the resulting off-spring will cause the story to branch off differently than if you had married the other girl. Yes, you do have some control over who will be your blushing bride, but you won't be aware that your actions are impacting this. However, you only have the option in the first and second scenarios and at the end of the game, no matter who you married in the other three acts, you end up controlling the same two characters, albiet in a different order.
And the story... oh, god, the story! It's been a long time since I've sat through so much cliched tripe at one time. An evil dragon is looking for magic swords to resurrect the king of demons. That's the long and short of it, but you end up having to periodically sit through absolutely terrible cut-scenes and there is no way to skip or speed through them.
As for gameplay, you can walk or dash through poorly rendered 3D dungeons that all look the same. You bash enemies with your sword or can blast them with magic. Combat is in real-time, its easy to control, you'll have quite a few moves available to you, but its still very easy and gets boring. Things get a little hairy when you are required to jump from platform to platform. You have to be very careful about lining up the jumps because objects that look like line up, for some inexplicable reason, don't.
Any puzzles that you encounter will be very simple, find the key or push the oh-so-conviently placed box on the switch. As the game progresses, the puzzles get a little bit more complicated but certainly nothing that will tax your brain. The dragons you fight at the end of each scenario can be challenging and are certainly the best part of the game. Your dungeon-crawl will be accompanied with some really spiffy rock guitar riffs.
In the end, Dragon Valor is just a mediocre action-RPG that doesn't stand-up well next to other entries in the genre. It's the Legend of Zelda without the cleverness, the Legend of Mana without the production values, and Threads of Fate without the charm.

It seems like I'm the only person who likes this game! I mean that its amazing none of you like this game. EVERYTHING is great about it! No, I'm not kidding!!! The music is cool. Especialy when you face off aganst the dragons. Control is simple! Why, its as simple as I am! Its so easy, only four of the dragons gave me a hard time! They would probaly give you a hard time too. These dragons are: Hellfire, Inferno, Thunder and Hades. Also, the final boss isin't THAT hard! All you have to do is dodge his magic, block his physical attacks, and when you have an opening, beat the crap out of him!

I was looking forward to a long rpg. But it turns out Dragon Valor is a straight forward adventure game. There is no brain twisting or puzzles. Just straight forward hack and slash. It's true you have certain rpg element as in magic and medieval stuff, but besides that you're limited to choices. Once you past an area you can't go back there. I repeat once you beat an area there is no return. So already you're looking at a level based game. There are no villages to walk through or a bars where you can go in to dally with average people. All you get is a one time trip to a shop. Worse part are the shops are restricted too. Each time you encounter a shop what you get to do is already chosen. It alternates between selling, buying and trading. Where is the freedom to roam towns, mingle with people, and go back to old places for deja vu?
Dragons... What more is needed to sell an RPG?

Well I can't hide my disappointment in this title... I read with great interest how this tale would involve you slaying dragons, however there was a very original twist. You had to produce offspring after marriage! I thought "Cool. Choose your wife and different consequences occur at different times..." However reality begs to differ, you see unlike expected the game doesn't allow you to choose your wife. You simply complete roughly five or six levels (this makes a chapter by the way) and then a woman appears... Not what I expected...
If taking away the joy from a twist wasn't enough they label a game as an rpg when it really isn't... You see the game plays a lot like the streets of rage series on the old sega magedrive, but it isn't anywhere near as good! The graphics are flawed, the game can get sluggish, but also it just seems to teeter on the easy side too much...
However challenge does appear in the dragons themselves... Some of them are so hard! You are struggling along and they can brush aside at any moment... Nice to see them making an effort to keep you going...
However I feel this game was far too overhyped. What we expected was an old style rpg with a striking twist on things, but what we got was a recycled 2D side scrolling beat 'em up disguised as an RPG... This game is only worth acquiring if you love either dragons or are a diehard fan of beat 'em ups...
