I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here. This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC. There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it. Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants. BWUAHAHAHA!!!
But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level. You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard! My description here doesn't even do it justice. Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out. If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.

You'll like this game when you play it one or two times, but then it'll be down to a science. The other Sim games add a little surprise to each game, but SimAnt is a pretty much one time deal.
Good Things - SimAnt does provide an enemy, though it is easy to over rule. It lets you switch to a different body in the game (spider, red ant, or black ant), which allows you to see the game from a different point of view. SimAnt also provides a experiment section where you can create weird and interesting habitats for the bugs.
Bad Things - Like I said before, its a game that is to be played once. More play action will result in endless boredom. And though it does provide an enemy, it is not that hard to overcome. You will learn very quickly that the same formula can/ has to be used for each game. Even in the different sceneries (a sink, stove, dirt, steps) there is no difference in the game play except the backround. The graphics do not live up to the Sim standards and are not that interesting to look at.
Unless you get this in a value pack (SimMania, etc.) I don't think that this game is worth your time.
Not the Run-of-the-Mill Ant Farm

As a child, many of us have had ant farms, well, did you ever wonder what it would be like to be in one? Here's your chance. This game is cheap and simple to learn. Pros:
--It has a simple to learn interface and everything is self-explanatory
--Controlling your growing ant empire is a cinch, click there, the ant goes there, push that, yougo to the corresponding screen. Everything flows.
--It has very few system requirements. A Mac Classic with a CD drive could practically run it!
It's cheap!
Cons: --It is too simple, all you need do is sit and wait. the computer who controls your empire in all the different sections of the yard will slowly oust the bad ants until you win.
--Has little replay value. Once you win it, all the other games are the same.
Overall, I would reccommend this game, just for the fun of it. But if you want a game to get addicted to, one that you can play over and over again with a challenge, you should consider looking somewhere else.
Played sim ant back in the day.

I haven't played sim ant in a year or so, and even then not very long.
I was reading a magazine about bees (kids discover) and i thought about this game and came to look for another copy to install on my computer to enjoy it again.
This is a very fun game. I will tell you from expiernce.
The person that said this has bad graphics, sure. If you put this up to half life 2 (which i've never played, but i'm sure that it has good graphics) it WOULD have bad graphics.
Sure, maybe being a worker is boring, but i like to play as a soldier ant and attack the opposing ant colon. Its so much fun to go into the enemy colony and send all your ants to kill off workers, soldies, and the prize about all to kill, the queen!
Laying eggs as the queen is pretty fun too, and digging around.
Ok, look at this, its a fairly cheap game, you mightus well pick it up.
Strategic, Involved, and Easy-to-Beat

SimAnt is an excellent simulation of ant battle, but is easy to beat and the sound and graphic quality is poor. Basically, you're an ant in a colony trying to destroy the red ants. A spider (which somehow shoots lasers occasionally, don't ask me) and ant lions are among the existing perils. It's pretty involved, with mating, behavior control, and foraging. These can be left alone (except the first), but it can be tougher without them. The full-game mode, the only one that I find worthwile, is too easy to beat and involves a simple strategy. I recommend this primarily for people who like strategy games.
GREAT GAME!!

This game is very very fun. You can live the life of ants, which I've always wanted to do! You can fight the red ants, spiders and ant lions. Collect food to keep your colony alive (especially your queen!). Play differnt game modes and explore different environments! I love this game, try it!

I remember playing Sim Ant when I was a kid. It was a load of fun, and for its age and time, I thought it was a brilliant and outstanding game. Now, it didn't help me pass biology in high school or even zoology in college, but it did help pass the hours of boredom. Basically, for such a low price, it will grab your kids attention.
My first game every!

This is the game that got me hooked on computer games. You are an ant. Well not just one ant, a whole nest of them. You can be any ant you want and you can control them all if you want or let them do their own thing. I was that type of kid that liked to play in the ant bed and feed spiders crickets I caught in the grass. This game lets you do that in the summer/winter/spring/fall/summer/winter...
It's better than Solitaire at least.

This isn't a bad game, actually. It's a great time killer and it is fun at some spots. The graphics are not good, obviously, but for the time it was made they are not that bad, especially the rain graphics. Do not buy this game if you are looking for an engaging game that will addict you though. This is a game that you will come back to every now and then and it will probably stay on your system for a while. One more thing: Don't buy this if you are afraid of bugs!

This is the ultimate ant farm for those who can't afford one. You get an ant and you dig a nest. You bring green food to feed your queen. You avoid the spider. You repeat. You can while away hours and hours with this game, digging away happily, but then you will suddenly realize that you were digging for naught. Why?
- When you switch between yard quadrants, all you work is replaced with a randomly-generated nest.
- The "warp spot" is always in the same place.
- The ants do just as well with your control as they do without such.
- The ultimate secret - tell to no one: you can win the game by setting it to max speed and just waiting. The ants will oust the reds, the humans, the dog and the lawnmower completel without your supervision.
This game gives you the illusion of being an ant. It also gives you the feeling of how worthless a single ant is. Try this game. It grows onto you.
